i'm writing from Brazil, some time ago i has your problem, old motherboard whit new winchester.
Just upgrade the bios not help me, but install the MS win98 directly form cd rom (in the bios leave all options for hd with auto detect), i do no how, the system reconized full 30 gb (my hd).
I hope you just have solved the proble, if don't try it.
