I assume you mean a VIA MVP4 and a SB Live otherwise this just sounds like a bunch of BS to me. :-)

Since this cannot be a BookPC, there are no other PCCHIPS systems that use the MVP4 chipset to my knowledge.

You might want to try and figure out who made the motherboard.

Also, a visit to www.via.com.tw may be in order as well as a visit to www.soundblaster.com.

You should look in the BIOS and look for a setting to disable the onboard Sound Card there. But, if this motherbaord also has an onboard modem (as most MVP4 mobos do), then you will also need to disable the modem, as the sound and modem are tied together.

Sounds to me like an IRQ conflict, but I would also test the sound card in another system to verify it works ok before going any further.

: i just got a BS live! for my computer and i put the thing in the PCI slot and when i boot it beeps at me about 5 times, the screen stays blank with a stand by orange light, other than that it sounds like it is booting up normally and then it just turns itself off about 20seconds later. i take it out and it runs fine
: all i need is a manual or a jumper setting for the mother board (i think) which has 'VIA VT82C59MVP 0007CE 13G078900' on the chip and i know its a MVP4. I've also played with BIOS without any luck, can someone plz shed some light on this so i can get the thing in windows (98) with the card in the computer.
: email me at 'Smeagle_777@hotmail.com'
: thanx
